You may enjoy cooking. You may enjoy baking. You may cook for a living (that includes all home cooks that feed the family). You may not know the stove from the oven in your kitchen. No matter what, you all eat, and probably have an opinion of what tastes good or bad. There is probably a favorite dish from your childhood that gets you nostalgic. There are other foods that you absolutely cannot stand. Others of you may view grocery shopping as therapeutic and fun while some have yet to try it. You may work in a restaurant or just be a patron. Whatever the case, the Flavor Hub community is for all of you.

What You Can Do in the Community

As part of the Flavor Hub online community, you will be a content creator and consumer. You will create or participate in conversations about food policy, nutrition, cooking techniques, ingredients and pop culture.

Shop, Cook and Eat Together. Looking for ideas to liven the mid-week dinner? Trying to eat healthier by cooking more and going out less? Looking for inspiration in the kitchen to get you away from the same routine? Find quick, affordable and healthy recipes by ethnic cuisine, cooking method, meal course or how other users describe the recipe. Connect through topical discussions to identify in-season ingredients and new techniques to try at home.

Manage Recipes. Organize all of your recipes with your own Flavor Hub cookbook. You can submit your full, original recipes or you can store links to favorite recipes that we will organize in your personal cookbook.

Compete and Entertain. Are friends and family always raving about that beef dish you make during the holidays? Do neighbors jockey to be first in line for the latest batch of your popular cookies? Perhaps you are eager to share healthier, updated versions of old-time favorites? Do you love the feedback you get from people that try your food? Or does your natural curiosity lead you to continually experiment with your recipes? If your answer is "yes" to these questions, then bring your top recipes to our friendly recipe contests and competitions. Compete, learn and entertain through the "sport" of cooking. Bask in your triumphs, follow your favorite competitors and develop a fan base.

Report the News. Submit links to real-time food news. Be the first to report the developments in food policy, food trends, food economics, nutrition and pop culture. Take pride in finding the latest scoops and be credited with informing the Flavor Hub community of relevant stories as you encounter them. Spawn informed conversations that ultimately paint a full, complete picture of the food issues that affect all of us.

Get Complete Information. Find a comprehensive collection of all the voices and perspectives on specific food topics such as politics, economics, nutrition, technique and ingredients. Be a part of the Flavor Hub community's connected web of news articles, blogs, photographs, videos and recipes that relate to specific issues. Be part of these real-time discussions as they unfold and get coverage of all the differing views and issues. Post your original thoughts, respond to others and watch the discussion unfold.

Be an Arbiter of Taste and Flavor. As a member of the Flavor Hub community, you have the power to decide the topics and issues that should rise to the top. Give "kudos" to the funny, insightful and tasty content you encounter, which factors into their rankings on our site-wide listings. You help to decide what is worthy of being a headline. You help to decide what is important and what is trivial in the world of food.

Our Goal

Food affects us in more ways than just what is for dinner. It is connected to our environment, our politics, our economy, our relationships, our health, and our traditions. Join the Flavor Hub community to ask questions, find answers, share expertise, build friendships, and appreciate how food affects all of us.

It is our sincere hope to inspire a new generation of cooks to pick up the knives, pots and recipes of their mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles and grandparents and continue those home-cooked flavors and traditions. Recipes connect past and present generations. We want traditions to persist so future generations do not lose the unwritten history of their families and cultures.

Who Are We?

After consuming multiple lifetimes' worth of fast food and junk food as a child, Joseph Chiu found himself looking to cleanse his past culinary sins while in law school. Soon, pots and pans replaced his books and notepads. His first trip to a farmers market was a transforming revelation of what fresh and natural food really meant. He also discovered a fondness for the farmers and their stories, which reminded him food is a combination of earth's bounties and man's artistry. Living and traveling in some of the culinary capitals of the United States and Europe, he realized the best food in the world comes from the home kitchen. Blessed with a large family of insatiable eaters, and more importantly, stubborn adherents to the food of the Old World, his lifestyle changed dramatically to match his palate. In 2008, after working as a corporate attorney for several years, he decided to indulge in his cravings and co-found our community. You can contact Joseph at joseph.chiu@flavorhub.com.

Coming from a family of culinary aficionados, Chun Heng Kok's fondest food memories date back to his native Malaysia where the street food, notably the grilled stingray, is the pinnacle of cuisine. A strong proponent of local foods, Chun enjoys the precision of cooking, and is a willing explorer when it comes to ethnic or regional dishes. Enamored with the independent artisans that spend their life mastering one particular dish, Chun loves food with a history and personality. During college, Chun craved the traditional homemade feasts that brought his family together. The experience confirmed that there was no equal to home cooked meals. He enjoys reading about technique and culture to get a firm understanding about traditional foods and indigenous ingredients. In 2008, after working in the technology sector for several years, he decided to follow his appetite and co-found our community. You can contact Chun at chun.kok@flavorhub.com.
